Dysport was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2009 and is considered an alternative to the very popular BOTOX Cosmetic.
Dysport is an injectable treatment made from botulinum toxin type A, the same neurotoxin that BOTOX Cosmetic is made from. It is measured in Speywood units versus regular units.
Although It has the same mechanism of action as Botox it has a faster rate of onset of action (2-7 days versus 5-12) and has been clinically proven to last a few weeks longer in a percentage of patients.
Dysport has been used in Europe for almost two decades.
Many of DermNurse clients prefer Dysport over Botox stating it has a "lighter" feel.
